1. About PenLingo

PenLingo is a browser-based English writing practice service operated by Red Cache Studios ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use PenLingo.

2. Your account

You need an account to use most features. You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account and for keeping your login credentials secure. You must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to use PenLingo.

3. Subscriptions and billing

PenLingo offers a free tier and paid subscriptions (Basic Pro and Pro Plus). Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis through LemonSqueezy, our merchant of record, and renew automatically until cancelled. Prices are shown at checkout and may include applicable taxes.

You can cancel at any time from your account settings or via the LemonSqueezy customer portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, you keep access to paid features until then. Refunds are handled in line with LemonSqueezy's refund policy and applicable consumer law.

We may change subscription prices or features with reasonable advance notice. Price changes apply from your next billing period.

4. AI-generated feedback

PenLingo uses artificial intelligence to analyse your writing, provide feedback, estimate CEFR levels, and score practice exam tasks. This feedback is provided for learning purposes only. It is not a certified language assessment, and an estimated CEFR level or practice exam score is not equivalent to, and does not predict, an official result from IELTS, Cambridge, Duolingo, or any other examining body. AI output can contain mistakes, use your own judgement.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of the writing you submit. You grant us the limited licence needed to process it, to run analysis, generate feedback, show your history, and operate the service. We do not use your writing to train AI models. You can export or permanently delete your data at any time from your account settings.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the service for anything unlawful, harmful, or abusive;
  • attempt to break, overload, probe, or reverse-engineer the service;
  • share your account or resell access to the service;
  • submit content that is illegal or that infringes someone else's rights.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Where reasonable, we will warn you first.

7. Availability and changes

We work to keep PenLingo available and improving, but the service is provided "as is" without warranties of uninterrupted availability. We may add, change, or remove features. If we discontinue the service entirely, we will give paying subscribers reasonable notice and a pro-rata refund of any unused prepaid period.

8. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for claims arising from your use of PenLingo is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

How we handle your data is described in our Privacy Policy.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. For material changes we will notify you by email or in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use PenLingo after the change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
