Future perfect and continuous

will have finished, will be lying, will have been working.

The rules

  • Future perfect: the action will be complete before a future moment.
  • Future continuous: an action in progress at a future moment.
  • Future perfect continuous: the length of an activity up to a future point.
  • "By + future time" usually goes with the future perfect: "will have found".
  • "Will you be using…?" asks politely about plans, without sounding like a request.
  • The future perfect places the leaving before "then".

  • By the time you arrive, we will have finished dinner.
  • This time tomorrow, I will be lying on a beach in Greece.
  • By next June, she will have been working here for ten years.
  • By 2030, scientists will have found a cure.
  • Will you be using the car tonight? I need it.
  • I will already be gone at that time.
