Adverbs of manner
Forming adverbs, and the tricky ones: hard, fast, well, late.
The rules
- Describing HOW an action is done needs an adverb: "sings beautifully".
- "Hard" is both adjective and adverb. "Hardly" means "almost not"!
- The adverb of "good" is "well": "speaks well".
- "Late" is the adverb of time. "Lately" means "recently".
- "Fast" is both adjective and adverb, "fastly" does not exist.
- "Hardly" = almost not: "he hardly eats meat".
