Word order
Subject–verb–object and where everything else goes.
The rules
- Manner adverbs usually come after the object: verb + object + adverb.
- Never separate verb and object with "very much", it goes at the end.
- "Never" sits between the auxiliary ("have") and the main verb ("tried").
- With the verb "be", frequency adverbs come AFTER it: "she is always late".
- Opinion adjectives ("beautiful") come before colour adjectives ("red").
- Indirect questions use statement order: "where the bank is", not "where is the bank".
