The rules

  • Instructions start with the base verb: "Close the door."
  • Negative instruction: Don’t + verb.
  • "Let’s" (let us) + verb is a suggestion for you and me.
  • Add "please" to make an instruction polite.
  • "Don’t" + verb tells you not to do something.
  • Directions are instructions: verb first.
