Question tags
The mini-questions that keep conversation flowing.
The rules
- Present simple → tag with do/does: "doesn't she?"
- Negative statement → positive tag: "have you?"
- "Let's" always takes "shall we?"
- Imperatives take "will you?" (or "would/could you?").
- Oddity: "I am" → tag "aren't I?", "amn't" is not standard.
- Falling tags invite agreement; rising tags ask a genuine question.
